Team USA system

Posted on: June 22, 2008 12:15 am

The american olympic team, for the past few years, haven't done very well with an All-Star lineup.

Other international squads have a squad with one or two stars. Other complementing players in their starting lineup and good role players to come off the bench. Which, is all they have. It works. NBA teams also have one or two stars with other players, role players etc. It works.

America sends all-stars. All superstars who want to ball.

Why not just send the best out of the members of the NBA Finals teams that are available for selection for the american squad.

The other countries players have played together for awhile. And if you were selecting from two NBA teams, they would have played together for a while as well.

The rest of the world would cry arrogant. Sure, but the team would have 3-4 stars with decent support players coming off the bench and a couple of role players. Everyone would know their place in the squad. It would be like an NBA squad, and they are the best in the world right?

The only way to beat the good european teams is with superior talent. With this we would have superior talent in each postion but we would still have a "team" structure with superstars, role players etc

Obvioulsy it isn't feasible at this point in time but I'd still like the discuss the merits and possible negatives of this. All points welcome...

Tell me your thoughts on this...

Team USA system

I have been saying something like that for the last eight years or so NH
Just send the best team in the NBA over there and the gold medals would keep coming, but no sending the best team, especially when it was the Spurs or the Pistons is nowhere near sexy enough for the NBA to do
